About

It was a warm summer evening at Camp Greenbriar, and the stars were starting to peek out from behind the fading sunlight. The campers had finished their dinner, and the counselors were gearing up for their evening activity. I, as a seasoned camp counselor with a heart for serving others, was planning to lead a worship session by the campfire.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the campers and counselors made their way to the large campfire pit. Excited chatter filled the air as everyone settled in, ready to sing and pray together. The guitar was strumming, the campers were singing, and the fire was crackling. It was an atmosphere of pure joy and togetherness.

But suddenly, in the midst of our worship, the lights around the campfire pit flickered and then went out completely. It was as if someone had flipped a switch, plunging us into darkness. The campers let out a collective gasp and a murmur of concern spread through the group.

As a camp counselor, I knew that this was a moment for leadership and faith, and so I rallied the campers and counselors together. I assured them that everything was going to be okay and that we would make the best of the situation. I could hear the fear in their voices, but I also saw the trust they had in me, and I knew I had to remain strong and calm.

I quickly gathered some flashlights from the camp supply shed and distributed them among the counselors. I then encouraged the campers to pair up and stay close to their assigned counselor. With the campers all accounted for, we began to make our way back to the main lodge, where the emergency generator would provide some light and peace of mind.

The walk back was filled with nervous whispers and the sound of twigs crunching under our feet. I called out encouragements and songs to keep everyone's spirits up. As we reached the lodge, I saw the relief wash over the faces of the campers and counselors as the emergency lights flickered on, casting a dim, warm glow in the main hall.

With the campers seated and calm, I made an announcement that we would continue our worship session inside the lodge. I led the campers and counselors in singing some of their favorite worship songs, and the sense of togetherness and faith was palpable.

After some time, the lights suddenly flickered back on, and the main power was restored. The campers cheered and clapped, and the room was filled with a sense of victory and relief. As we closed out the worship session, I took a moment to speak to the campers about the unexpected power outage.

I shared with them the lesson of finding strength and faith in difficult situations and how we need to support each other and rely on God's guidance. The campers nodded in agreement, and I could see that they had truly been impacted by the experience.

In the following days, we reflected on the power outage and how it had brought us closer as a community. The campers and counselors were quick to share their experiences and how they had seen God's hand at work in the midst of the darkness. It became a story that we would retell every year, serving as a reminder of the power of faith and togetherness.

As the summer came to a close, I looked back on that night with a sense of gratitude. It had been a challenging moment, but it had also been a beautiful testament to God's presence and the strength that comes from leaning on each other in times of need. And as I said my goodbyes to another group of campers, I knew that the memories of that night would stay with them for a long time to come.
